Young Addington Court Golfer Makes It Look Easy

February 3, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Some may say that golf is a difficult sport – but eleven year old Kieran Chapman may disagree.

In his first ever event, just five months after taking up the sport, the young Addington Court Golf Club member won the club’s first junior competition of the year, and now leads the Croydon golf club’s 2010 Junior Order of Merit.

Kieran, a pupil at Courtwood Primary School in Addington, beat fourteen fellow competitors on Saturday 23rd January, in chilly conditions, to win the first in a series of twenty-four Junior golf events which the club will run this year.

Kieran’s remarkable score of 23 points over the club’s 9-hole Academy course gave him a two-point victory over the rest of the field.

The sports-mad youngster first played golf in a schools coaching session at the popular local golf centre, and has since attended the free Tuesday evening and Saturday morning sessions at Addington Court GC.

He is a regular pupil of golf coach Alex MacGregor, who teaches all ages at Addington Court’s Crown Golf Academy.

Paul Oliver, Director of Golf at Addington Court Golf Centre, said: “We may be celebrating a new star here! Kieran is a natural at golf. He took to it immediately and shows a fantastic flare for the sport.

“We are all amazed at how quickly he has progressed, particularly as – unlike many other junior golfers – he has no other golfers in his family to help him practice and learn the game.

“Our Junior section is growing rapidly, and with youngsters like Kieran in the mix, we hope to have a very successful season.”

Addington Court Golf Centre, in Croydon, boasts the 18-hole Championship course, a further 18-hole Falconwood course, a nine-hole course, and an 18-hole pitch and putt, all located in picturesque parkland. The centre also features two golf shops and excellent teaching facilities, including a 32-bay floodlit driving range, for players of all abilities. In addition, there is also the Championship clubhouse and an attractive function room.

Addington Court Golf Centre is part of the Crown Golf group, the UK’s largest golf club owner/operator with 30 properties and 52 golf courses in its portfolio. With pride in customer service and innovation, it aims to provide an outstanding golf experience for its members and visitors, tailor-made to suit the lifestyles and needs of a wide range of golfers.

Crown Golf Reach Agreement on Abbotsley Hotel, Golf & Country Club

February 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Crown Golf, the UK’s largest golf course owner/operator has reached an agreement to transfer the lease on Abbotsley Hotel, Golf and Country Club located near St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Abbotsley comprises a 42 bedroom hotel, two 18-hole golf courses – the Abbotsley and the Cromwell, a par 3 course, two club houses, driving range and practice area and a squash club and fitness centre.

Crown Golf has traded the property since December 2004 following the acquisition of the former American Golf Corporation group of clubs. American Golf had taken a lease of Abbotsley in 1999.

On 1st March 2010, the property will revert to the landlord and well known golfer, former British Women’s Open Champion, Vivien Saunders OBE. Vivien also owns the nearby Cambridge Meridian Golf Club in partnership with Jenny Wisson.

Stephen Lewis, CEO from Crown Golf says, “We are continuing to consolidate our estate, focussing on the clubs which the business wishes to retain for the long term – either for operational reasons, or as a result of their development potential”

Vivien Saunders OBE says, “The eleven years of leasing Abbotsley to American Golf and then Crown Golf has been a very exciting period in the development of Abbotsley. It has seen the addition of 30 more bedrooms at the hotel; and membership of the Crown Golf Group has seen the advantages which go with being part of a large, successful organisation. Margaret Middleton, formerly secretary/manager at Corhampton Golf Club, joins Abbotsley as General Manager” .

1 Confirmation & deposits

1.1 When a provisional booking has been made, written confirmation is required no later than 14 days after the provisional booking, together with a deposit of 25% of the ‘estimated event value’ or £1000 which ever is greater.

The ‘estimated wedding value’ is calculated based on the clients estimate of numbers attending and estimated average cost of food and beverage required inclusive of evening guests. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE. The Centre’s terms and conditions are also required to be signed a returned within 14 days of the provisional booking. The Centre reserves the right to cancel any provisional booking not confirmed by the agreed date – but The Centre will endeavour to contact you prior to taking this action.

2 Payment & settlement of account (Reference Payment Structure)

2.1 We require 50% of the estimated full payment to be paid not later than 5 months before the event date.

In the case of a wedding being booked less than 5 months in advance the deposit payment of 25% of estimated event value or £1000 is dues within 14 days of making the booking and a second payment of 50% of the estimated value of the event is due 1 month after payment of the deposit. 3 Guaranteed Numbers Attending

3.1 We request that final numbers of guests attending the wedding reception and / or any evening event be confirmed no later than 14 working days in advance of the event date. The numbers provided are then considered the ‘guaranteed minimum number’. 4.4 In the case that an alteration needs to be made to the booking as a result of the reasonable means of The Centre to source specific products or services due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, The Centre will provide an alternative product or service of equivalent value and notify the client in advance of any such alteration.

5 Cancellations

5.1 We realise circumstances occasionally mean that an event may have to be cancelled. Any deposit will be retained or, may be transferred to another date within the same year so long as the cancellation is made at least 3 months before the scheduled event. If the cancellation is made within 3 months of the original confirmed date, the value of the booking will be evaluated and an invoice for 50% of the lost revenue will be payable, less any deposit. A 100% cancellation fee will be charged should the function be cancelled within 1 month based on the original confirmed booking.

Small fire reported at Pine Ridge driving range

January 19, 2010 · Leave a Comment

There was a small fire at Pine Ridge Golf Centre on the evening of Saturday 16 Jan 2010.

The fire, which broke out some time between 22:00 and 23:00, was spotted by a guest at a function. The police and fire services were called, and arrived at approximately 23:15pm, whereupon the fire was quickly extinguished.

Nobody was hurt, and fire damage was limited to two teaching bays adjacent to the driving range. The teaching bays suffered minor internal damage, and the golf club lost some golf teaching equipment. The fire also damaged the power supply to the range’s ball dispensing machines and automatic ‘Powertees’.
Pine Ridge Golf Club’s popular golf driving range was not affected and all bays are open as normal. All security systems are fully restored and working.

Bradley Chard, General Manager at Pine Ridge Golf Club, said: “We are thankful that nobody was hurt in the incident, and we are looking into the cause. As it is a closed area, it was probably an electrical fault, although a fire services investigation is ongoing. The affected area only takes up a small part of the golf club, and we are open for business as usual.”
